Continuous Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastics
Polystrand Inc. has developed what many material experts believe represents the next generation of fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites. This new structural material system combines continuous E-Glass, S-Glass, Carbon and Aramid fibers utilizing polyolefin based resins. Unidirectional tapes and X-ply in continuous rolls can be post-formed through an elevated temperature process to create a new family of end-use applications. Impact and abrasion resistant panels for the rail and trucking industry, selective reinforcement of LFT (Long Fiber Thermoplastic) automotive components and ballistic protection are a few examples of the numerous applications for Polystrand material.
What makes Polystrand unique among composite material systems? It is the use of oriented continuous fibers in a matrix of thermoplastic polymers. The resulting proprietary structural composite has many advantages compared to traditional, more brittle thermosetting polymer composite matrices.
